Singapore is a magnificent country with a delicate combination of historical elements and modern touches tied together with a strong sense of culture and diversity. Singapore is full of color and life and truly stole my heart.
1 DAY IN SINGAPORE
Singapore
Singapore is a place I've dreamed of visiting ever since I saw pictures of the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay. It's an Asian destination that is certainly more expensive than the rest, and the reason why I hadn't had the chance to visit yet. I originally wasn't planning on making Singapore a part of my 2 week Chinese New Year Holiday, but after searching for the cheapest flights to and from Australia, I found a 30 hour layover in Singapore and knew this was my chance to make it happen! I certainly made the most of my 30 hours in Singapore and loved every single minute of it. I walked the entire city top to bottom and saw everything in between, totaling about 50,000 steps in those 30 hours. I definitely want to travel back to Singapore someday and truly spend more time exploring all that it has to offer. Whether you are stopping over to spend just a day on your long-haul layover to your final destination or you decide to stay awhile, here are a few things you do not want to miss while in Singapore!
Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is beautiful both day and night and was the first tourist attraction that I went to after dropping my luggage off at the hotel. I hopped in a taxi and made it just in time for the light show. Garden Rhapsody is a light and sound show that occurs every night at 7:45 and 8:45. I stood in awe of the powerful lights and music and felt as if I were in a fairy tale or the movie Avatar. Singapore certainly succeeded in creating an innovative green space that you''ll be raving about for years. Don't forget to also visit the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
Little India
Little India is the perfect place to visit for lunchtime if you're craving Indian food. Not only does this little neighborhood have delicious food at every corner, it's filled with so much culture and beautiful old architecture that you'll completely forget that you're in a city populated with 5.6 million people.
Kampong Glam District
This historical district is lined with tiny alleyways overflowing with independent boutiques that you could spend hours stepping in and out of. You'll feel the hustle and bustle of people with their own agenda as you walk around this lively neighborhood. Kampong Glam is a great place to find a cute place for lunch/dinner, refresh with a cold beer, and visit a gorgeous mosque.

Find the Merlion & Merina Bay Sands
The iconic landmark of Singapore, the Merlion is a half-fish, half-lion statue facing the three towers of Marina Bay Sands. The name combines the word mer (meaning sea) with lion. The fish body represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village and the lion's head represents Singapore's original name -- Singapura -- meaning "lion city" in Sanskrit.
