Writer's Workshop

The 2018-2019 school-wide initiative at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen was to improve writing. In order to do this I went through the Writer's Workshop professional development. Within the workshop we learned the Writer's Workshop model, how to plan lessons and implement this model in our classroom.

With collaborative preparation and planning, each writing unit is mapped out using lesson ideas from Jennifer Serravallo's "The Writing Strategies Book."

Each writing lesson is planned and delivered using the Writer's Workshop model. This includes a mini lesson, independent writing/conferencing, and share time. The mini lesson goal is to teach students a targeted strategy or tool that can immediately help them improve their craft of writing. The 10 - 15 minute mini lesson includes the following;
