Professional Responsibilities: 4d Participating in the Professional Community
Leadership Roles & Volunteering
During the school year, I am always going out of my way to help students and build relationships. Here are examples of the different ways that I took on leadership roles and volunteered to participate in various school events.
High School Volleyball Coach
Volunteering to coach volleyball is something that I look forward to each school year. I wanted the opportunity to create relationships with DP students and share my volleyball knowledge with them. The relationships that I have with these students is really special and they continue to grow throughout the school year.
Middle School Volleyball Coach
I took on the leadership role of Head Coach for the middle school volleyball team. This experience was very different from coaching high school girls volleyball. We started at the very basics and fundamentals of volleyball. My goal as a head coach was to foster an environment where athletes could learn and make mistakes all while having fun and enjoying a new sport. Watching students improve and reach their goals in different ways is my favorite part about coaching.
CAS Supervisor
Before the middle school volleyball season began, a Grade 11 DP student approached me to ask if he could help assist in coaching volleyball for his IB CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) experience. As his supervisor, we worked together to create goals and discussed what responsibilities he would have. Throughout the season he wrote reflections and I tracked his progress. At the end of our volleyball season, we reflected together and I assessed his overall performance. This student has asked to assist coach again during the 2019-2020 volleyball season.

PYP Exhibition Mentor
I received the opportunity to mentor a small group of Grade 5 students as they were creating their own Unit of Inquiry and presentation for the PYP Exhibition. Each week I met with this group to review their progress, answer questions and guide them through the inquiry process. At the end of 6 weeks, the students presented their information and research to my classroom as action and celebrated their hard work at the PYP Exhibition.

Hong Kong Beach Clean-Up
During October, a large typhoon devastated many areas of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. A group of DP students decided to take action and helped to clean garbage from a beach in Hong Kong. I volunteered to travel with these students to Hong Kong. We spent the day cleaning the beach and nearby areas. The students and I felt a great sense of accomplishment, as we helped clean the beach and made a positive impact on the environment.

Student vs. Staff Soccer Game
During the high school girls soccer season the coach asked for volunteers to help scrimmage and practice with the girls. Since I had built such great relationships with these students during volleyball, I was happy to volunteer and help.
International Food Fair
Each year ISNS celebrates the diversity within our school during International Week. At the end of the week, parents and teachers work together to create a food fair for the students to enjoy and taste food from all over the world. During the food fair, I volunteered to give mehendi tattoos to students. This gave students an opportunity to immerse themselves in an Indian tradition.
